30 September 2009: babyboomboom Gets Top Marks at 2009 Practical Pre-School Awards
The National Practical Pre-School Awards identify excellence in educational equipment, books and toys. Each product is tested by children and their carers in at least two separate settings, providing assessment of appeal to children, durability, adaptability, educational value, play value and value for money. The babyboomboom multi-lingual CDs, which contain songs and nursery rhymes in English and a second language, came out on top after this rigorous testing.
The testers concluded that “The CDs provide an enjoyable insight into other languages. Research shows if babies are exposed to different languages then they easily become bilingual as it's much easier for them to pick it up. The children in our nursery love these CDs and listen to them daily - because they're always asking for them! They are already starting to pick up French and Spanish words.”
Juliet Machan, babyboomboom managing director, is delighted to have won the award. Juliet says, “The concept behind babyboomboom is that through active play and listening, babies and toddlers pick up simple sounds and words. Recent research, published in the journal Infant Behaviour and Development, shows that toddlers can pick up a foreign language at the age of just 20 months even before they have fully mastered their native language.” She continues, “The research used methods of repeating sentences in two languages, which is similar to the babyboomboom approach, except that we use nursery rhymes instead. This gives a feeling of familiarity, making a second language less daunting and more enjoyable for both children and adults.”
babyboomboom is going from strength to strength. The company was also short-listed at the 2009 Nursery World Awards, in the ‘Birth to Threes - Tried and Tested Favourites’ category, for their CDs and band bags which contain a CD and four instruments specially designed for small hands.

14 October 2008: Babyboomboom celebrates its first birthday with the launch of Italian and German versions of its "multi-lingual fun" products
Available for the first time at The Baby Show, Earls Court, 17-19th October 2008. Visit babyboomboom at stand F36.
Babyboomboom, producers of smash-hit multi-lingual nursery song CDs for babies, toddlers and pre-school children, celebrates its first birthday this month with the launch of two new "multi-lingual musical fun" products in Italian and German. The fun and interactive CDs, already available in Spanish and French, contain well-known songs and nursery rhymes sung in English with each verse repeated in a second language.
Launched in a year ago to great acclaim, babyboomboom is the brain child of working mums wanting to familiarise their own children with the sounds and shapes of other languages in a fun and familiar way that can be enjoyed by parents and children.
Co-founder Juliet Machan said: "Our new Italian and German recordings have been produced in response to demand from parents. The babyboomboom idea is very simple and has proved enormously popular. What's more it actually works! babyboomboom is not trying to teach a language, but it is an easy and participative way for parents and children to familiarise themselves with the sounds, and have fun together, with other languages. Because we've chosen familiar songs, parents don't feel intimidated by the new language and that helps them to relax and have fun with their child."
"We have big plans for the next year, expanding the range of "multi-lingual musical fun" products. We will be continuing to add new languages to our range of CDs and band-bags - Polish will be available soon, as well as other product ranges, so watch this space!" Reports from parents are universally encouraging, with many parents saying that their young ones now happily sing along in more than one language. And despite the fact that the CDs are not designed to teach, many children have learnt to count to 10 in another language as well as learning colours and animal names. The CDs are available individually or in band bags that include four carefully chosen, very high quality musical instruments designed for small hands. Each CD includes all the lyrics in each language.
All products are available from www.babyboomboom.com, as well as a number of retailers. CDs are priced at £9.99 and the band-bags are priced at £19.99. There are two band-bags available: one bag suitable for babies from 6 months and one suitable for older children (tested from 10 months, recommended from age 3). babyboomboom offers parents and children hours of endless fun.

24 June 2008: Summer Fun Starts Early with babyboomboom. Toddlers and babies prepare for summer hols with multi-lingual CD
Babies and toddlers are getting themselves ready for their European summer holidays with babyboomboom's musical, interactive, multi-lingual CDs. The CDs contain well-known songs and nursery rhymes sung in English with each verse repeated in a second language – available in French, Spanish, with German, Italian and Polish to follow shortly.
The concept behind the idea is that through active play and listening, babies and toddlers pick up simple sounds and words. Before they can talk, parents and carers may find the children doing the actions in the right places (even in the second language) and as they start to talk will witness them gradually repeat more and more. In time, the children familiarise themselves with the language, and amaze parents and carers at just how much they have picked up – giving them a headstart in life whilst having lots of fun. The babyboomboom series aims to stimulate the children's minds with sounds such as drum beating, clapping hands as well as the familiar sounds of the repetition of traditional nursery rhymes, albeit in another languages. The whole idea is that children will be learning without realising it and enjoying themselves at the same time.
Juliet Machan, co-founder says, "We are not trying to teach children languages, but to familiarise and stimulate with a view to unlocking the potential of our little one minds whilst having lots of fun". Research shows that babies recognise music that they have heard frequently from a very early age – even whilst in the womb, and we all know how good babies are at mimicking what they see and hear in their daily routine.
"Languages are an important aspect of the future, to such an extent that many pre-schools have introduced French into their curriculum. We are certainly not trying to take over their role but want to give our little ones exposure to the sounds of foreign languages so that in years to come they won't be an alien concept."
All products are available from www.babyboomboom.com. CDs are priced at £9.99 and they are also available with a range of four carefully selected musical instruments with one bag suitable for babies from 6 months and one suitable for toddlers. The band-bags are £19.99, providing the child with hours of endless fun.

13 November 2007: Babyboomboom advocates fun for babies and toddlers
Multi-lingual music and language company babyboomboom is advocating a return to fun for babies and toddlers and thinks its band bags which contain a CD of well-known nursery rhymes in English and a second language with a selection of musical instruments, will do just that.
babyboomboom takes traditional and well-known nursery rhymes in English and repeats each verse in a second language – currently available in French or Spanish. The idea is that children sing along and in the process pick up some of the sounds that will help them learn a second language as they grow up.
Founding Director of babyboomboom, Juliet Machan says: “It is very easy to put too much pressure on children to achieve greatness before they have learned to have some old-fashioned fun, not least because fun has been shown to significantly enlarge our ability to learn and understand.”
babyboomboom works through active learning – in essence, the children teach themselves. Even before they can speak, babies and toddlers listening to babyboomboom CDs participate by joining in with the actions in the right places, and the idea of the instruments is that children can play along too.
Myra Barrs, an expert in what happens when young children begin to read and how they transfer this to their writing, talks about ‘tuning the page.’ She says children listen to the tunes in the words; their patterns and rhythms, and has shown through years of research that children get a lot of their implicit understanding of how language works from that enjoyment. A simple thing, like reading stories aloud to your children, has a huge impact on their lifetime enjoyment and ability with reading and writing. And nursery songs and rhymes remain very powerful and potent for children. These songs and rhymes are whole stories, with linguistic patterns and are musically enticing. They don’t have to make sense, or be based in the natural world (who ever said a story had to make sense?) but they do engage children and they learn a vast amount about how language and ‘literacy’ works from them. It seems a pity that schools, under pressure from a government insistent on measurement, and in their urgency to impart the science of words and sentences, reducing the sense of enjoyment.
What happens when other languages are introduced into this exciting and heady mixture of words and music? In short, it is hard to determine a measurable effect, but we can make a reasonable judgement based on the excellent work done by language teachers, our own intuition and the observation of our own children in how they react to being exposed to other languages through song and rhyme. The children love it, and quickly begin to repeat and play with the sounds of other languages. The emphasis is not on learning for assessment; it is about allowing children, from the time of their birth, to hear the sounds of languages in a fun and enticing way. There is a growing interest in introducing young children to other languages in a variety of ways, and already babyboomboom’s multilingual musical CDs are proving extremely popular; not just with parents who want their children to be well-rounded people, but with the children themselves. Childhood is mercilessly short in our modern world, and anything that can return fun to literacy has to be good in itself.

25 October 2007: Multi-lingual songs for babies and toddlers
The launch of babyboomboom’s® multilingual musical CDs struck a chord with parents and parents-to-be at this year’s Baby Show in London. The CDs familiarise babies and toddlers with other languages by repeating well-known English language nursery rhymes and songs in a second language. Conceived two years ago, and launched after much careful development, babyboomboom proved to be one of the major hits of the show.
Parents buying babyboomboom have already reported that their young children love the CDs and are quickly learning to sing in other languages.
Father of two, Chris Low said: “My three year old daughter has been listening to the French for just the weekend and I am amazed at how much she has picked up.” Another parent said, “I talk to my two year old only in French and my husband speaks to her in English, but despite my best efforts, she has only been speaking in English. After a week of babyboomboom, I caught her sitting on the toilet singing babyboomboom songs in French. I was really impressed.”
The CDs, sold direct at www.babyboomboom.com, are currently available in English with French and English with Spanish, and can also be purchased in baby or toddler babyboomboom band-bags. The band-bags contain beautifully made and colourful musical instruments as well as a CD. All CDs come with the song words in both languages and are only £9.99. Prices for band-bags start at £19.99 making babyboomboom the perfect Christmas gift.
babyboomboom spent a long time choosing the right songs, making original recordings and selecting the instruments to sell with the CDs. Managing Director, Juliet Machan said, “We worked with our children and our friends’ children along the way, watching what they liked and responded to. We also asked the children for their help in choosing the right instruments. We are delighted with the response to babyboomboom at the show and are looking forward to the pre-Christmas period.”

10 October 2007: Children sing and play in English and a second language
Babies and toddlers are set to outshine their parents in their familiarity of other languages with the launch of babyboomboom® – a multi-lingual musical CD of well-known and traditional nursery rhymes sung in English and a second language – currently Spanish or French.
babyboomboom CDs, priced only £9.99 each and developed by busy working mums for children aged 0-5 years of age, play well-known and traditional nursery rhymes and songs in English, with each verse repeated in a second language. Knowing that children who grow up in bi-lingual families can easily switch between languages from a very young age, and seeing the growing demand to introduce modern languages to young children at home and in pre-school environments, babyboomboom is designed to be a fun, participative way for parents and carers to familiarise babies and toddlers with the sounds of other languages.
From birth we pick up all the necessary sounds needed to begin to form language, and one of the best ways to do that is by hearing and repeating rhymes and songs. Toddlers pick up simple sounds and repeat them and, in time, become familiar with the sounds of a language. Potentially giving them a head-start in our modern multi-lingual world, babyboomboom children also have a lot of fun.
The founding directors of babyboomboom are careful to explain that the CDs are not a language course, but are a fun way for young children and their parents and carers to become familiar with the sounds of other languages. The participative, shared experience of repeating rhymes and songs together encourages and stimulates young minds. “Our little ones also love to dance along to babyboomboom and now switch easily from one language to another,” says co-founder Juliet Machan.
Juliet knows that familiarity is very important for parents too, and translating the songs she knew when she was young is a fun way to introduce the sounds and ideas of other languages for her child. It is also terrific fun to share the experience, “it has benefited me too. Now, after several plays of babyboomboom, I can not only speak some French and Spanish but can sing it too – if singing is the right term! I am sure many parents would relish the same advantage – stimulating toddlers and helping them to become familiar with another language at the same time.”
All the songs are original recordings made by professional musicians and played on acoustic instruments. babyboomboom believes strongly in active participation and are planning to launch a new range that include musical instruments designed for small hands so that toddlers can accompany the songs. babyboomboom is also beginning to work with play-schemes and children’s groups and welcomes any input from nursery and playgroup leaders.
